Ray Newland, Vice President, Senior WC Claim Advocate, Marsh

Before joining Marsh in 1999, Ray had over 11 years with a national insurer. His background includes all aspects of claims—from adjusting to managing to account liaison. Examples of Ray’s client activities include: improving the quality of claim handling after the first claim review, resulting in changes to the adjuster team, lower caseloads, and higher experience level, reducing reserves by $147,000 by examining 15 files before the insurer’s retrospective calculation, maintaining expertise in current California workers compensation developments and trends— especially SB863, assessing clients’ post-accident processes to best practices through GAP analysis to identify improvements, using claim reviews as a tool for carrier/TPA accountability and control, and reducing workers’ compensation costs through accelerated claim resolution projects.

Jerry Anderson, Director or Risk Management, Management & Training Corporation

Jerry has been with Management & Training Corporation since 2014 and has over 30 years of experience in the Risk Management, Safety, Claims and Insurance industry.  Jerry Manages all aspects of insurance, risk, claims, and loss control for MTC.  Jerry is responsible for the total cost of risk including insurance, loss control and claims.  Jerry oversees the third party administrators handling of all claims with a $1M retention.  He oversees the Risk Management function of MTC Medical, onsite clinics at 11 correctional facilities, onsite clinics at 22 Job Corps Centers and 24 Correctional Facilities.  Jerry has specialized through the years in claims management in several capacities.

Stephanie Smith, Office Manager & Claims Examiner, S&C Claims

Stephanie is a certified and experienced Claims Supervisor with over 27 years of insurance experience with a proven track record in reducing claims costs through expedient settlements, prompt claims closure, early return to work and judicious medical management. She also manages the claims office with integrity and ethics to meet all client needs. She has built partnerships and embraced new opportunities, and adjusted complex multi-million dollar caseload for high profile accounts.

Prior to joining S & C Claims, Stephanie worked in California as a Claims Examiner and Claims Supervisor with over 10 years of insurance experience.  She is the past President and current Vice-President of the Claims Manager Association and the 2012 Claims Professional of the Year, Insurance Professionals of Salt Lake City.
